Hearing the exciting news that Cher’s daughter Chastity Bono’s is undergoing a gender transition, had us speed dialing our girl Alexis Arquette immediately. What does she think about coming out as a transgendered from the perspective of someone who’s dealt with the media?
Cher make Chaz read her words of advice:
The most important thing to remember is that coming is a highly personal time, and one should be completely comfortable to talk about it or NOT talk about it. Details about the proscess ARE PRIVATE and those around you, including the media, need to respect that. Everyone’s coming out comes at a different times for everyone, and there’s no right or wrong way to do it. It’s an organic process that is unique to all transgendered folks. Not only are you dealing wiht the exposure and the questions from others, but it can one of the most important moments in your life.
Having those who love you rally to your support, is essential, but there’s also the realization that this is a path taken by you and you alone, and it can be a rocky road.
Many emotions, often buried or suffered in silence for years, can arise and demand attention. Many opinons and concerns for ones own health and safety will be expressed and will be considered. But once the “cat is out of the bag” so to speak it is the individual’s responsibility to stay the course.
There’s a difficult side of the process which is hand holding people who can’t understand it, but it’s also a beautiful time in your life. Don’t forget that among the tidal wave of doubts and fears thrust upon you. Celebrate this time, and you know that this is not a rare phenomenom. Your experience is common among so many trans-brothers and sisters that have come out before you.
Draw from that vast of wealth of trans-history. You are not alone.
Blessing to all who have kept their secret, not only is it the core of our your existence, but your destiny in this world.
Well said.

another butch lost to manhood…. because society cannot cope with gender variant women and makes butches hate the fact that they are women… makes it easier to transition than to accept yourself as a woman who doesnt match the stereotype of female..
I find it sad
