Bruno opened to $14.2 million today and may come close to a $36M weekend
A: Bruno is the only film in..well…. EVER that we’ve had problems reviewing in just one line.
Did we love it?
We’ve never laughed so hard in our lives.
Will we see it again?
No, and we won’t buy it on DVD either, which makes us think…Who Would? Who’s going to whip this out over Christmas break and have the whole family sit down for a screening of Bruno?
Should you see it?
Not with your AUNT unless she’s a great sport like ours!!!
Bruno might be one of the funniest movies of the year, but it’s also one of the most stressful, disgusting, unappealing, neck tensing theater experiences in recent history. Our theater was about 75% full and I saw about 10 people walk out because they just couldn’t handle it.
We unknowingly took our whole family, including our Catholic Aunt and I was hoping she wouldn’t be one of those people. Here’s an example without spoiling the entire film:
About twenty minutes into the movie we had to watch a penis dance around with only a landing strip of pubic hair to distract us, while it sang out of it’s urethra…WITH OUR AUNT!!
To her credit she never left and had some very great arguments about the film over lunch at The Farm.
There are parts where you’re laughing at the homos, scenes where you boo black people for hating gays, and of course the crusading Christian are in the film trying to convert Bruno.
We left the theater a little sick, Lynn had a headache from being so tense, but we didn’t stop talking about it the whole day even if the talking centered around disgust and homophobia. We used to be really worried that Bruno would promote homophobia, and that people would think his gay behavior, like being chained together in a hotel room after kinky sex with poop on the walls, was what gay people were really like.
The bottom line is if you’re uneducated about the gays when you see the film, you’re not going to leave with a new understanding. You’re just going to laugh about the fact that gays make you uncomfortable and leave the theater feeling validated and a little dirty.
