Palm Springs Must Eats – Spencer’s & Copley’s

ps

L: As the loyal readers that I know you are, you must know that we love to take off to Palm Springs at every opportunity. It takes me about a week to convince Alex to drop the cash. It’s all about outdoor evening dining in Palm Springs. Anyways… we discovered two magical gems and we wanted to pass it on, we’re fabulous like that.

Trying to look as cool as possible.

1. Spencer’s Restaurant – is a little slice of heaven to us, we’re regulars when we visit Palm Springs, and has outdoor dining to die for. Chef Eric Wadlund’s culinary skills are sexy and current. We all ordered specials of the day and they were outstanding. I think this place has one every local restaurant award possible… go!

2. Copley’s Restaurant – The atmosphere is casually posh and absolutely Palm Springs. It’s on Cary Grant’s old estate which they poured a lot of money into a remodel that makes this gorgeous eatery a must on our Palm Springs itinerary always… and so should it be on yours. Chef and owner Andrew Manion Copley has worked in some of the most fabulous five star locations around the World.

See what I mean?

Look people, these places aren’t cheap. You get what you pay for. Burgers in the car with a salty steering wheel or caviar in the cabana with top shelf cocktails. It’s your call. You know, someone very wise once said:

… if you ain’t got no money, take your broke ass home

- Fergie

She’s a literary genius. Much like a Maya Angelou, yes?

Cafe Was – Bohemian Chic Hollywood

Wow, when we walked in well dressed and ready to have a swanky cocktail and some brunch piano side… we were not at all disappointed. We were quickly greeted by Collin who explained the Parisian meets Haunted House aesthetic. It really is quite eccentric… would you expect anything less from the Mr. Ivan Kane famous for 40 Deuce, now in Vegas at Mandalay Bay.

We started with a few shots of the infamous absinthe. Anise flavored and strong enough to induce hallucinations… we were excited. The way they combine the Absinthe with sugar and water makes it much more palatable but, trust us, did not take from any of the buzz worthy qualities of the elixir. This is reason enough to visit this up and coming hot spot.

If you still need more convincing…. the food. It is outstanding and very moderately priced. $20-40 for brunch. The Chef Alex knows what he is doing and his playful variations of American and European classics is a manifestation of his extensive experience and quite creativity.

They have a fun bottle service that you will just have to figure out for yourself on your next visit. Go check out Hollywood’s newest hot spot, Ivan Kane’s Cafe Wa S

LAragmag Does BOA on Sunset

As a gay man when you here of a venue called BOA we get a whole different image of what to expect. Well, while you might not see gogo boys dancing with “their” boas you will find an intimate and well staffed steak house in the heart of Los Angeles. If you live here, you know that a GREAT steak is something hard to find… much like the new Prada pump.

We dined at BOA on the Sunset Strip right up the street from our house last weekend with our agent. It was, in all three of our opinions: fabulous! Twelve year aged Kobe filets ($60 per ounce but worth it, you can order more cheaper cuts), sides to die for, salads to kill for, and desserts that could actually kill you.

We give BOA on Sunset an A+. We will be back again… even if we have to pay. Not a bad place to book out for a private party. A small and sophisticated setting for a meal of uncompromising flavor and service. It is often hard to find both at one restaurant here in Hollywood. Be assured, BOA has everything covered. Just make sure you get a reservation. It’s popular.

Going to Vegas soon? Go to BOA Vegas and spend those winnings on some real meat… not the meat that takes your wallet and gets you arrested when she invites you up to her room. That jezebel!

Boa is fabulous. It’s an LAragmag MUST!

LA’s Best Eats – Comme Ca – L & A Approved

Comme Ca is the best little French bistro in the city, with a star studded clientele, and a cheese plate to rival all others with a crusty baguette from Boule. We were sent to try the restaurant and review it, then ended going back the very next day and actually PAYING! Huh? What? How?

Yes, we craved the experience again with our highest maintenance friend we have, David Shannon.

Tip: Go for lunch it’s cheaper and less crowded.

Good Times!

Seven Four One – Laguna’s Beachfront Beauty

From one extreme to the next we dashed off from the reclusive Palm Springs to the newest hotel on the Pacific Coast Highway filled with people, the gorgeous Seven 4 One hotel. We needed some moisture on our cracked lips so we checked into a modern room with spectacular ocean views and a sundeck.

Don’t judge us…we’re trying to reduce our carbon footprint by staying at a green hotel this weekend. Including card less entries, energy saving windows, and the bed sheets are so new they smell like they just came out of the package.

Perks: Sand valets and free set ups on the beach
Night movies projected onto a courtyard screen to enjoy by a fire
One block and easy access to the beach, makes you feel like you’ve rented a beach house
Molton Brown products
Killer spa showers with pebble floors

True, it’s not for the frugal family ($299 for a standard room), but if you’re in Laugna Beach you aren’t being frugal.

LA Rag Mag Travels To The Korakia Pensione

Don’t be jealous, but when you run a successful website there are some major perks, like getting to stay at exclusive celeb hotspots all over the country and bringing your friends with you. So we want to share with you our travels in a new blog segment we call LA Rag Mag Travels.

The Korakia Pensione is a Morraccan inspired hideaway for the rich and famous, including Jack Black, Drew Barrymore, and we even bumped into Wanda Sykes while we were there.

Our dog/child Parker had wandered off and found Wanda on a tour of the grounds with a friend so he snarled at her.

“Is this your dog?”
“Yes!”
“He’s over here growling at me!” In Wanda’s defense Parker is cute so it’s shocking when he hates you.
“Yeah he’s not very friendly. Sorry.”

Lynn was wasted so when he saw Wanda he thought he knew here, oh the embarrassment!

“HEY GIRL! I know you!” Lynn screamed from the pool.
“No Lynn, you don’t! It’s Wanda Sykes” Alex whispered trying to shut him up.
“NOOOOO We’ve worked together before! Don’t you remember? I SWEAR!”
“Lynn…shhhh!”

Our stay was an oasis escape from the ordinary, but go during the week for a discounted rate or be prepared to pay like a celebrity.

The Korakia Pensione – Our Palm Springs Getaway

VACATION SLIDE SHOW TIME KIDS

Often times the search for a boutique hotel/retreat in Palm Springs will leave your desk cluttered with brouchers of mom & pop hotels with kitchy decor and in dire need up an update. The Korakio Pensione is so far removed from the standard old apt complex turned resort that litters the palm lined streets of the desert oasis.

This Moroccan inspired retreat is infused with Spanish influences and it’s rustic feel instantly transports you to another time( literally there are no TV or phones) and place. The grounds are nothing less than something featured in Archetectual Digest... of which they have been featured. 1.5 acres of a surreal and tranquil escape from the camp and themed hotels of this city. Fire pits, 2 heated pools, and prices just high enough to keep out the undesirables making it an outstanding adult hideaway.

No kids under 13 are permitted, even though they did let us bring our friend David Shannon so they make some exceptions. No worries about your prepubescent child judging you while you sip on your martinis at 11am immediatlly following your complimenty full cooked breakfast poolside in the Moroccan courtyard.

Yes…….. for you frugal fruits and fruit flies our there, don’t worry about breakfast because it’s on them. We made our way over like gay hungover zombies, because YOU KNOW THESE BITCHES WANT OUR FREE BREAKFAST! On our way in we ran across a small box filled with black and white photos of a few stars who have stayed here recently.

Lenny Kravitz, Drew Barrymore, Mark Ruffalo, ?, Jack Black, and some gay guy named David.

It was french toast and strawberries for us. Delicious and ambient, we brought our own Diet Soda. Tea for breakfast? CRAZY!

Now we find ourselves poolside, cocktails in hand, cigarettes stacked nicely awaiting their flame….

We will be keeping you updated …. and jealous!
