“Leaving Grey’s Anatomy was not an easy decision for me to make. I am extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to play this character and will miss my fellow cast and crew very much. I continue to wish them the very best, and wholeheartedly thank all of the fans who have supported me and the show with such passion and enthusiasm.”
A: Here’s what I think know happened, because Hollywood is the same story on repeat, and I’ve followed this story.
T.R. Knight and Katherine were kind of diva bitches on set but Katherine was so popular that she called the shots and had the pull. TR was just her gay best friend who felt the tension on set and had a strong ally when he was gay bashed. Strong enough to get Isiah Washington fired.
One day the unhappy gay and his fruit fly decided to pair up and threaten to leave together. The ABC producers thought they could lose TR and not suffer (him being gay caused waves before right?) but if they lost Izzy they’d lose viewers. She’s the most popular character on the show now, so it’s simple. They offer her more money which is her salary plus TR’s and fire him.
Katherine acts like she hasn’t taken a big raise and rushes to her gay guy’s side to say he’ll be happier off working in movies elsewhere.
Quit, recast, and repeat with the next big dram on network television.
